Please join Ruth Grim for a unique, guided-trip to the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala to view exquisite works by William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Jean-Leon Gérôme, Thomas Couture, Jules Breton, Rosa Bonheur, Auguste Rodin and others. The group will explore the height of the great French 19th century art academies, which produced some of the most technically advanced works of art for their time – and also spawned a dramatic revolution in art by those who rejected its teachings, the Impressionists.
Other notable Appleton collections including its Asian, Pre-Columbian, Ancient Greek and Egyptian, African and Florida Artists will be included in the tour with insights into the collecting strengths in these areas which has given the Appleton a reputation as one of the most encyclopedic museums in the area. The museum’s new temporary exhibition devoted to the art of Ummarid “Tony” Eitharong, a longstanding fixture in the Central Florida art scene, will also be included providing a look at his amazing career spanning several decades and taking him from highly realistic pencil drawings to his vibrant abstract paintings of today.
The registration fee includes transportation and Ruth's discussion during the bus ride only. Seats are limited; and registration is non-refundable. OMAM's premier-level members can show their current membership card to receive free admission to the Appleton. For those without North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association® benefits, you will need to pay your admission upon arrival ($10 adults; $8 seniors 55+). The group will also have lunch together, but checks will be separate and each should plan to pay for their own meal. The tour bus will depart OMAM at 9am and will return by 5pm.
