Join OMAM Guest Curator Ruth Grim for a special trip as we journey north to visit the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens in Jacksonville. In addition to its extensive, important encyclopedic collection spanning many cultures and time periods, the Cummer is currently featuring a fine traveling exhibition of one of America’s most well-known artists – Andrew Wyeth.
Andrew Wyeth at Kuerner Farm: The Eye of the Earth is a rare chance to see this master of 20th century American art. This exhibition contains 40 works by Wyeth including some of the artist’s most iconic masterpieces from Kuerner Farm as well as exciting works drawn from Andrew and Betsy Wyeth’s private collection, including works that have never been on public display.
After our docent-led tour of this exhibition and time spent enjoying their permanent collection and other exhibitions on display, we will travel a little up the road to Amelia Island for lunch at one of Fernandina Beach’s many delightful restaurants and have time to explore a bit of this historic old Florida waterfront town with his Victorian mansions and island charm. Lunch destination to be determined with options to explore and decide your own preferred dining options as there as several in the downtown area as well as many shopping opportunities.
Our chartered bus will depart from OMAM promptly at 8:30am and will return back to OMAM by 6:00pm. The (non-refundable) trip registration fee ($60 OMAM Museum/Guild members; $70 Future Members) covers transportation and Ruth's discussions. Participants are responsible for paying for their own meals, admissions, and other expenses. Since the Cummer Museum is part of the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association, our museum's premier-level members are able show their current OMAM Membership Card and receive free admission. Those without NARM benefits will need to pay admission to each institution upon arrival ($20 for adults; $15 for seniors and military with valid ID).
