Sumi-e means Ink Painting in Japanese. This beloved and ancient art form was practiced by Buddhist monks as a form of meditation and continues to grow in popularity worldwide. The Wild Orchid is one of the Four Gentlemen and represents Spring. Traditional brushes and ink are used to make basic strokes including the orchid leaf stroke, bamboo leaf stroke and bone or stem stroke. A Lily and Dragonfly are also included in the lesson. All materials are included.

About the Instructor

Fontaine Rodgers holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art and is both artist and educator. Her extensive teaching experience includes classes at The Crealde School of Art in Winter Park, The Museum of Art-DeLand, The SOBO Gallery in Winter Garden and 16 years as an International Baccalaureate Art Teacher. She is a member of the Sumi-e Society of America and the President of the Central Florida Printmakers.
