Description

Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026 | 4:00 - 5:00pm

During this OMAM Art Book Club happy hour gathering, we'll discuss The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, a historical fiction novel about a man torn between his American birth and Mexican upbringing, as he navigates the 20th century's political turmoil, including his time with artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and the rise of McCarthyism in the U.S. Told through his journals, the book explores themes of identity, art, revolution, and the gap between public perception and truth.

RSVPs are encouraged as refreshments will be provided. This program is included with museum admission, but is completely FREE for current OMAM members and US veterans. Come early to explore the exhibits, gift shop and gardens!

Those in attendance will help select a future book and meeting date, so bring your recommendations!

DISCUSSION GUIDELINES

  • Make an effort to finish the book.
  • Be prepared to share and listen.
  • Maintain a respectful, open-minded attitude.
  • Keep it fun!

ABOUT THE CLUB

Sponsored by The OMAM Guild (but open to ALL), this club meets approximately every six weeks inside the museum to discuss a selected art-themed book in a welcoming atmosphere — refreshments provided. Members are encouraged to suggest future titles, helping curate a dynamic reading list focused on artists’ lives, art history, historical fiction, and stories that illuminate the creative spirit.
