Description

Tuesday, June 16, 2026 | 4:00 - 5:00pm

During this OMAM Art Book Club meeting, we'll discuss Wild Thing: A Life of Paul Gauguin by Sue Prideaux, a 2025 biography that re-examines the artist's life using new research, including his son's memoir and dental analysis that challenges the syphilis myth. The book portrays Gauguin as a complex figure who advocated for Indigenous rights in Tahiti, challenging his scandalous reputation and highlighting his artistic vision and impact on modern art.

RSVPs are encouraged as refreshments will be provided. This program is included with museum admission, but is completely FREE for current OMAM members and US veterans. Come early to explore the exhibits, gift shop and gardens!

Those in attendance will help select the Sept/Oct book and meeting date, so bring your recommendations!

DISCUSSION GUIDELINES

  • Make an effort to finish the book.
  • Be prepared to share and listen.
  • Maintain a respectful, open-minded attitude toward differing opinions.
  • Keep it fun!

ABOUT THE CLUB

Sponsored by The OMAM Guild (but open to ALL), this club meets approximately every six weeks inside the museum to discuss a selected art-themed book in a welcoming atmosphere — refreshments provided. Members are encouraged to suggest future titles, helping curate a dynamic reading list focused on artists’ lives, art history, historical fiction, and stories that illuminate the creative spirit.
